The Isaiah Center (Children’s Center):
In January 08 we opened the first phase of the center with six amazing children. They are growing and developing daily, and are such a blessing to all those who come in contact with them. We know God is going to use them for GREAT things!
The main project we are working on for the future is a 24 hour “daycare” for a Gypsy village of around 3,000 Gypsies. There will be many different aspects tied into the daycare, including training with parents, and literacy programs (as most of the adults cannot write their own name). In Romania, 80% of the abandoned children are Gypsy, so we want to work directly with them, sharing Christ, educating, and providing hope for their futures and the next generation of Roma (Gypsies) as well (as they are outcasts in Romanian society). There is much abuse and neglect within a Gypsy village, and by taking these children in, taking care of their physical and emotional needs, sharing Christ’s Word with them, we are giving them the opportunity to develop in a loving atmosphere and an opportunity to integrate and succeed in Romanian society when they are older.
We will do the center in phases, as we are currently in phase one. Some of the children will come daily while their parents try to look for work. Others will stay most nights as their situations are more serious involving abuse, neglect, or abandonment.
The second phase and future expansion project of the center will be a 25,000 sq. ft. two-story building that will be able to equip 200 babies and children. There will also be room for older children and teens to receive tutoring (as well as encourage them to go to school), food, clothing, and other items to help them continue their education), seeing them through, so that they may then have the opportunity to break free from the uneducated and jobless cycle the Gypsies find themselves in.
We have interns with us year around to work alongside of the Romanians and even the Gypsies that we hire. We want to see not only these children learn about and fall in love with Christ, but we want to see these adults running after Him as well.
The overall outlook on the center for these at-risk children will be to provide:
Physically-
Providing a REFUGE for the at-risk, outcast children, needing shelter whether it is temporary or more long-term until we are able to process their case and find them a loving home.
Emotionally-
We are creating a loving environment with nurture, encouragement, comfort, and stability.
Mentally-
The children will be in an educational environment whether they are a toddler or an older child, in that we will have daily Bible lessons and stories on all different levels, and eventually provide preparation for those getting ready to enter primary/elementary school.
Spiritually-
We will have Christian staff members and volunteers who will provide Bible lessons daily, and nurture the children in a loving, Christ-filled environment.
Socially-
The Gypsy culture tends to be very violent and abusive, so we will be teaching the children how to interact properly with one another, manners, politeness, etc., in order to ensure them a smoother transition into Romanian culture in which we prayerfully hope they will eventually be working.
Family ministry-
For each child that we find a sponsor who is willing to pay $30/month to oversee their stay in the center, there will also be a sponsor for $30/month who will provide a large portion of food each month. In this way, we are caring for the most at-risk child in the family as well as the rest of the family and children receiving visits, encouragement in Christ, and food each and every month
