Serving with FMN in Romania

We are often asked by individuals and churches about how they can serve with FMN on a short or long-term basis. We will try to answer all your questions here!

Preliminary Preparations – Individual

  • Download an application (link to application). If any problems occur and you are unable to download the application form, please e-mail Rachel Ross on our contact us page
  • Please submit completed application to Rachel Ross to be reviewed and approved by Rachel Ross and the FMN board
  • We will call you to schedule an interview once your application is received
  • At that point communication will begin to plan a preliminary visit (dates, details, etc). FMN requires that all volunteers wishing to serve longer than two weeks MUST first come to visit the ministry and leaders before pursuing an extended trip

Preliminary Preparations – Team

  • Team leaders need to download an application (link to application)
  • Please submit completed application form to Rachel Ross to be reviewed and approved by Rachel Ross and the FMN board. Please include the dates you are proposing for scheduled trip
  • We will call you to schedule an interview once your application is received
  • At this point communication will begin to plan your trip and we will also ask that each team member fill out an application form

Preparations Once you have been approved for your trip the planning can begin!

  • Confirm dates with FMN
  • Buy your airline tickets (it is recommended to fly into Budapest, Hungary. Flights directly to Romania tend to be more expensive and not very reliable)
  • Get your passport. By Romania law, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months regardless of how long you will be staying.
  • Confirm accommodations
  • Teams can choose from Oradea based accommodations with a 40 minute drive to Tinca each day, or Tinca based accommodations for proximity and to save on transportation costs
  • Individual volunteers will stay in Tinca from our foundation apartment or a nearby hotel.
  • Confirm transportation (if needed between Oradea and Tinca)
  • If anyone is interested in other accommodations and/or transportation they are responsible for reserving and scheduling this on their own.

One month prior to your trip, FMN will need:

  • A copy of your itinerary (the airline, flight number, dates and times of both legs of your roundtrip flight)
  • A copy of your passport
  • Criminal record Check. This is a requirement for every individual and team member
  • If any team member is under 18 and traveling alone we must have notarized permission from legal guardians

Recommended Immunizations

  • Tetanus-Diphtheria (protects against contaminated soil and air)
  • Hepatitis A (protects against contaminated food)
  • Hepatitis B (protects against contaminated blood)
  • Typhoid (protects against contaminated food and water)

When You Arrive

  • Transportation will be previously arranged to be picked up by a taxi or transport service at the airport. It is a 4 hour trip from Budapest and the car will take you directly to your hotel, or wherever else you are staying. Individuals (and teams) are responsible for this cost.

What Are the Costs Involved? Teams and individuals are responsible for all costs including:

  • Transportation, accommodations, food, planned activities or projects and fulfilling the paperwork required
  • When considering food costs please be aware that teams and individuals are welcome to eat at the children’s center. However, please consider:
  • There will be a charge of 15 RON (approx $5) PER person to eat at the center. This applies to all visitors.
  • There will be an extra $100 US charge for teams larger than 6 persons, to pay for an additional cook.
  • Teams and individuals have various options for meals – please just be sure to have this confirmed PRIOR to your arrival
  • Hotels range from $20 – $25 US per person/ night. Individuals staying at the foundation apartment will be charged $15 US per person/night (under 4 weeks) and $10 US per person/night (4 weeks and up)

Additional Thoughts We are so grateful that you have chosen to partner with Forget Me Not Ministries and join alongside of us with God’s work here in Romania. Please know that there are many cultural differences, and we ask that you please be respectful of those during your visit to Romania. Please keep in mind that the FMN leaders have worked hard to build and maintain trusting relationships with the parents, children, and community they are working with. We ask that you do not do anything to jeopardize this or the ministry in anyway.
